Description:Brooklyn teenagers Tony Manero (John Travolta) lives in a tough part of town with his dysfunctional family. His only thrill is dancing at the club every weekend. He dresses, walks, talks all for that thrill, and he's the best. His friends follow him and mimic him while they drink, take drugs, and chase girls. For a dance contest, Tony approaches Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney), a somewhat older woman who lives in Manhattan. They become partners and friends although they aren't much alike. When one of Tony's friends gets beaten up, Tony and the others attack the rival gang. The day of the contest, the friend who was beaten admits he isn't sure who attacked him. Then Tony and Stephanie win the dance contest, but Tony realizes a Puerto Rican couple danced better and he only won because of favoritism. Then two of his friends basically date-rape a girl in the back of the car. And then one of Tony's friends who has always been teases as a wimp, manages to fall off the Brooklyn Bridge to his death. Tony realizes his life is going nowhere. He rides the subway all night, the shows up at Stephanie's apartment, asks to be friends, and expresses a determination to make something of himself.

Review - Saturday Night Fever

Way too much profanity and crudeness to be good, but Travolta does a good job of portraying the growth of Tony as the story progresses. The music, I have to admit, was enjoyable.
