Review - A Farewell to Arms
Boring and melodramatic. Gary Cooper can't seem to decide if he's playing this for pathos or laughs. Pure sap.

Description: | Frederic (Gary Cooper) is an American ambulance driver in Italy during WWI. He falls in love with Catherine (Helen Hayes), a nurse, on the night he meets her. This also happens to be the night he impregnates her. He goes off to the front. She heads to Switzerland to hide her condition. Their letters to each other are stopped by a jealous officer who wants Frederic to chase women with him instead of settling down. Frederic finds out that Catherine is pregnant and goes AWOL, arriving just in time to hold her as she dies. |
