Description:The best know Tarzan of all. Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller plays the ape man. Maureen O'Sullivan is Jane, an English girl who insists on traveling with her father and Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton who played that character on Batman years later) to find the elephant graveyard. After dealing with all sorts of perils, Jane is suddenly kidnapped by Tarzan and spirited away to his treetop lair. She's afraid at first, then intrigued. Tarzan returns Jane to her father, but the safari is captured by a short African tribe ("Are they pygmies?" "No, they're dwarves") who feeds them one by one to a giant ape. When all hope seems gone Tarzan arrives in time to save Jane and the other guy. Jane's father dies. The other guy returns to civilization and Jane stays in the jungle with Tarzan.

Review - Tarzan the Ape Man

If it was a silent movie, I would have enjoyed it more. The constant screeching by Jane, the constant animal noises, and the constant weird grunts of the pygmi... no, dwarves was relentless, loud and annoying. Definitely pre-code and better than one could possible expect it to be.
