Description:Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) is a rookie phenom hoping to break in with the Cubs. He leaves his childhood sweetheart Iris (Glenn Close) but promises to call for her. On his way to the city on the train, he meets a woman named Harriet. That night he goes to her hotel room where she shoots him and then jumps out the window. Sixteen years later, Roy makes a comeback with the New York Knights. The Knights are a terrible team. Their manager Pop Fisher (Wilford Brimley) has to win the pennant or lose the team to his unscrupulous partner, Judge. Pop is unwilling to play Roy at first, thinking he's too old. But when Roy finally gets into a game, he inspires the team with his play and the team begins doing better. Judge sics a woman on him, Memo Paris (Kim Basinger), and for a while she is able to distract Roy. But one day Iris goes to the park. Roy sees her, they reconnect, and Roy begins hitting again. Miraculously, the Knights end the season tied for first. Roy is in the hospital, his old bullet wound threatening to kill him. But he determines to play in the play-off game. Bleeding and in pain, he hits a dramatic home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game for Pop and put a halt to Judge's schemes. Roy retires and marries Iris, who has a son who turns out to be Roy's.

Review - Natural, The

Kinda cliche, but fun if I pretend it's fantasy. The baseball scenes weren't bad, and the final home run, with the lights bursting in slow motion, is a classic.
