Description:Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman), long retired from competitive pool, spots Vincent (Tom Cruise), a young man with talent and an attitude. Eddie decides to invest in the kid so he takes him and his girl Carmen (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) on the road and shows them how to hustle. Their goal is the big tournament in Atlantic City. Along the way, Eddie realizes he's taught Vincent all he can and leaves. He goes back home and practices and joins the Atlantic City tournament himself. He plays Vincent in an early round and beats him, but then Vincent reveals that he got paid to let Eddie win. Eddie insists on a real game, just between the two of them, knowing that if he doesn't beat him then, he'll beat him at a future tournament.
