Chinnough is thought dead, and the blame is laid on him. He's rescued, and determines to clear his name. He takes passages on a ship now captained by his old first mate. On board he meets Kim Mitchell (Gail Russell), out seeking adventure. They're attracted, but when Kim finds out that Chinnough got drunk and lost his ship, she pulls away. The ship gets caught in a typhoon. The captain can't handle it and calls for Chinnough to help. He sees the ship through the storm. The captain thanks him and promises to tell the truth so Chinnough can get his captain stripes back. Kim and Chinnough end up together.

Review - Captain China

It's hard not to like any movie with Gail Russell. This one isn't great, but it kept my interest because I had Chinnough and Kim to root for. The storm scenes were actually pretty convincing for a movie made in 1950.
