Description:Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) protects Gotham City dressed as a bat. He's motivated by revenge for the killing of his parents by a street thug when he was a boy. Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) is a photographer out to get the scoop. She meets Wayne, and they fall in love. Batman finds out that a local criminal organization is involved in a chemical factory. He shows up and confronts Jack Napier (Jack Nicholson). Napier falls into a vat of chemicals and is transformed into the Joker. He escapes and starts a crime spree, lacing products with chemicals to kill them with huge grins on their faces. As Batman tracks him, he and Vale get closer and he reveals his identity. Batman also discovers that Napier was the thug who killed his parents. The Joker promises to hand out money at a parade and unleashes chemicals on the crowd the shows up. Batman thwarts the plot. Joker grabs Vale and climbs to the steeple of a ridiculously-tall church. Batman follows, fights off all of Joker's thugs, and causes Joker to fall to his death.

Review - Batman

I want to like it more. I remember being similarly disappointed when I saw it when it first came out. Nicholoson does a pretty good job as an insane Joker. But Batman seems rather ineffectual. He's always getting beaten up. He crashes his plane. He only survives the fight in the steeple because he managed to hang on for dear life until the Joker fell. And although I like Michael Keaton in other things, he doesn't do a great job as the brooding Wayne. On the other hands, the few lines of comedy he has are great. I just think the character needed someone with more presence and was a bit more invincible.
