But he overhears Alva's mother on the phone telling someone that Alva is going with her to Memphis to be the mistress of Mr. Johnson who promises Alva's mother money in exchange for time with Alva. Owen leaves. Alva, in desperation, married J.J. (Charles Bronson) but immediately regrets it. She takes his money and heads to New Orleans where she finds Owen. Review - This Property Is Condemned

I know it's a drama and not supposed to be happy, but Owen knew what kind of background Alva came from. Why was he so shocked that she'd married J.J. in desperation rather than become Mr. Johnson's mistress, especially after Owen had left her without asking for her side of the story about Memphis. The other thing was the music. It was so light and happy that I KNEW the movie had to have a happy ending. Awful soundtrack.
