Reviews for Murder, My Sweet
Review - Murder, My Sweet
Like with all of Chandler's plots, this one was overly-complicated with some good dames and bad dames and witty dialogue.

| Description: | Philip Marlowe (Dick Powell) is hired by a thug to find his old girlfriend Velma (Claire Trevor). He's also hired by another guy to help him buy back a stolen necklace. Marlowe gets knocked out and wakes up to find the other guy dead. Then Ann Grayle (Anne Shirley) shows up looking for information. When all is said and done, Marlowe solves the case and ends up with Ann—after getting beaten up a bunch of times. The plot was complicated, with a jade necklace as the mcguffin, an evil doctor, a snake of a psychologist, and of course the police. Velma turns out to be Ann's stepmother, who is now the rich trophy wife of an old man. Velma was knocking people off to hide the fact that she used to be cheap. Pretty much all the characters except Marlowe and Ann are dead by the end. |
