Description:Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) is the acting director of the CIA when he gets wind of a series of attacks on drug cartels in Columbia. He gets wind the the President authorized the use of American troops under the lead of Clark (Willem Defoe) without authorization from Congress. The President was engaging in a personal vendetta after a friend of his was killed while laundering drug money. When the President's advisers find out that Jack knows, they call of the mission and abandon the troops. On his own dime, Jack flies to Columbia. He joins up with Clark and together they rescue the few remaining troops. Jack then returns to the US and exposes the President's actions.

Review - Clear and Present Danger

At this point, when the US government is mostly attacking itself and has surrendered in the war on drugs, the movie feels dated. Ford was good, if unbelievably competent in action as a simple adviser.
