Description:Hudsucker Industries is rolling in the dough. Chief stockholder Waring Hudsucker (Charles Durning) realizes that he worked so hard to be a success that he let life pass him by. He jumps out the window. Chairman Sidney Mussburger (Paul Newman) believes that Waring's will states that his stock should be traded publicly, so to drive the prices down so he can buy it, he decides to hire a dope to take Waring's place. When mail boy Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) shows up, he's hired. Amy Archer (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is a reporter who pretends to be from Barnes' hometown and gets hired as his secretary. She writes a story that Barnes is an imbecile, but then she falls in love with him. Barnes has one idea — the Hula Hoop. Mussburger agrees to manufacturing it because he's sure it will be a flop, but it's a hit and Hudsucker stock soars. So Mussburger works with another reporter to say that Barnes is out of ideas, that he stole the Hula Hoop idea from the elevator boy, and that he belongs in a sanitarium. Then Mussburger tells Barnes that Amy is a reporter. Despondent, Barnes jumps from the building. But before he dies, the ghost of Waring shows up and informs him that all his stock belongs to the new president. Barnes is in charge for real. He gets together with Amy and invents the Frisbee.

Review - Hudsucker Proxy, The

I kept falling asleep. That's never a good sign. Everyone in the movie was a parody so there wasn't really a reason to care, and it wasn't funny enough to be interesting for humor's sake. Leigh is supposed to be excellent in this movie, but her character grated on my like fingernails on a blackboard.
