| Description: | A drunk, ex-minor league pitcher and pool cleaner Buttermaker (Walter Matthau) is paid to coach a pathetic little league team. At first, he doesn't care about anything, but the kids begin to get to him and he decides to try. He recruits Amanda (Tatum O'Neal), the daughter of his ex-girlfriend as a pitcher and gets the local thug to play outfield. The team begins winning and makes it to the championship. Buttermaker is playing to win, but when he sees what a jerk the other manager is being to his kids, he changes his mind and puts in all the bench warmers. The Bears end up losing by one run but feel like champions. |
