Description:Unhappily married Howard Brubaker (Jack Lemmon) has just been promoted to management when his womanizing boss Ted Gunther (Peter Lawford) invites him over for a party. Howard feels decidedly out of place. He meets Catherine (Catherine Deneuve) and asks to get her a drink. To his surprise, she grabs her coat and heads for the door with him. They hang out, talking about their unhappy lives. They meet an older couple (Myrna Loy and Charles Boyer) who show them that an old marriage can be a happy one. Catherine announces that she's going to leave her husband and return to France, and on the spur of the moment, Howard asks if he can come along. Both face difficulties informing their spouses and friends, but manage to make it to the airport and meet up on the plane.

Reviews for The April Fools

Review - April Fools, The

While the two main characters were likable enough, I couldn't lose track of the fact that the movie was legitimizing adultery and divorce. The other scenes, with the sick avant garde party, fashions and clubs, and with Howard's drunk friends, were just annoying.
