Well done. I was invested in the characters, although Bathsheba irritated me at times. Gabriel was the quiet hero.

Description: | Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan) is a poor girl, living with her aunt. Her neighbor, Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts) loves her and asks to marry her. But before she decides, he loses his entire flock of sheep and has to sell his farm and she inherits a far of her own. Gabriel still loves her and goes to work on her farm where he has to watch as she is courted by wealthy neighbor William Boldwood and then impulsively marries soldier/rake Sergeant Francis Troy. Troy is a gambler and womanizer. When is former flame shows up pregnant and then dies in childbirth, Francis spurns Bathsheba and runs off. He's reported drowned. Bathsheba is almost determined to marry Boldwood when Francis shows up again and demands that she sell her farm and give him the money. Boldwood arrives and kills Francis, then turns himself in. Gabriel decides to go to America, but Bathsheba chases him and agrees to marry him. |
