Reviews for The Mating Game
Review - Mating Game, The
Frenetic but fun. Based on the book The Darling Buds of May by H.E. Bates, the same book on which the British TV series was based.

Description: | IRS agent Lorenzo "Charley" Charlton is sent to the farm of Pop Larkin (Paul Douglas) to find out why he has never paid income tax. Charley is all business—until he meets Mariette (Debbie Reynolds), Larkin's daughter. The whole Larking clan, Pa, Ma, Mariette, and her four siblings all work together to enchant Charley. Before long, all he's interested in is Mariette. Charley's boss comes out from Baltimore and sends Charley home. He determines that Larkin owns the government $50,000 in back taxes. There's no way Pa can pay that, and he's about to sell his place to his greedy neighbor when Charley and Mariette save the day. They've found an old claim from the government from when the Union Army bought horses from Larkin's ancestors but never paid. The bill due Larkin is now $18 million. Larkin isn't interested in the money—except to use it to pay his taxes forever. Charley ends up with Mariette. |
