Description:Maria (Olivia de Havilland) is a princess of a nation that has been overrun during WWII. She travels to America with her uncle (Charles Coburn) in hopes that she can find a suitable husband. On a plane, she takes too many sleeping pills and is knocked out. Pilot Eddie O'Rourke (Robert Cummings) has no idea who she is, so he takes her back to his place. The two fall in love. When Eddie is called into service, he impulsively asks Maria to marry him. To her surprise, her uncle and family are OK with it. but when Eddie finds out what's expected of him as a prince escort—especially that he has to give up his U.S. citizenship, he refuses. He asks Maria to give up being a princess and marry him as a regular girl. She agrees, and with the help of the White House staff and a Supreme Court Justice, they get married without her uncle finding out and run off together.

Review - Princess O'Rourke

Mildly entertaining. It reminded me of Roman Holiday except that the princess ends up marrying the American commoner after all. The biggest problem is that the movie did nothing to convince me that Maria and Eddie could possible be in love with each other.
