Sad. The movie actually had me rooting for Gittel but not liking Jerry much because he came across as a demanding jerk.

| Description: | Jerry (Robert Mitchum) leaves Nebraska for New York because he's sick of submitting to his wife and her father, his boss at a law firm. In NY, he meets Gittel (Shirley MacLaine), a generous, anxiety laden, sometimes dancer. The two start a fling, and this time around Jerry demands that he be the one doing the giving. Gittel loves him but realizes he hasn't gotten over his wife. The break up, but then she has a bleeding ulcer and he comes back to take care of her. They think about moving in together, but when Gittel finds out that Jerry's divorce came through and he never mentioned it to her, she realizes they have no future. The part as friends, and Jerry goes back to Nebraska. |
