Reviews for The Big Clock
Review - Big Clock, The
Good noir. Milland played his part well. Laughton was creepy as the overbearing Janoth. Harry Morgan had a silent, sinister role as Janoth's heavy.

| Description: | Crime reporter George Stroud (Ray Milland) is angry with his boss Earl Janoth (Charles Laughton) for making him miss a long-overdue vacation with George's wife, Georgette (Maureen O'Sullivan). George goes to a bar to drink and meets Pauline York (Rita Johnson), Janoth's mistress. The two try to think up a way to get back at Janoth and end up drunk at Pauline's apartment. Janoth shows up and sees a man leaving. He gets angry and kills Pauline. He assigns George to cover the case and find the killer. When George finds out Pauline is dead, he realizes he's likely to be blamed. As he looks for the real killer, all the evidence begins to point to him. Georgette shows up and, after some initial skepticism, decides to help George. They frame Janoth's right-hand man, Steve Hagen (George Macready). When Hagen realizes he's about to take the fall, he reveals that Janoth is the real killer. Janoth shoots Hagen, then falls to his death down an elevator shaft. |
