Description:CIA agent Dan Slater (Yul Brynner) gets word that his son was killed in a skiing accident in Austria. Dan takes off without getting clearance and soon becomes suspicious that his son was murdered. He figures it's a trap to get to him, but he wants to get to the bottom of it. His old partner Frank Wheatly (Clive Revill) now runs a school in Austria. He's lost his nerve, and Dan thinks he's part of the plot, but Frank just wants to help. Gina Ericson (Britt Ekland) is the last person to see Dan's son alive. Dan tracks down the men Gina says were skiing with his son on the day he died. He's overpowered and a impersonator takes his place. Dan is being taken off to be killed, but he escapes. There's a final showdown in a cable car station. Frank is faced by two Dans and doesn't know which one to shoot. When the impostor says he loved his son, Frank knows he's not really Dan because Dan never loved anybody. The real Dan heads home and meets Gina, who has been fired and invites her to share his train car.

Reviews for The Double Man

Review - Double Man, The

At first I thought I was watching an interesting suspense movie. But it was half over before the bad guys make their move, and their plot to isolate Dan was ridiculously, implausibly complicated. Britt Ekland was likable, but her character wasn't necessary and didn't have much to do. The biggest flaw in the movie is that Yul Brynner's character was absolutely unlikable and I didn't care what happened to him. The hint at the end that Gina cared for him was a late and failed attempt at giving him some personality. I found my attention drifting as the movie neared the end.
