Description:Harry Fabian (Richard Widmark) is a hustler who schemes to corner the boxing racket in London. His girl Mary (Gene Tierney) tries to talk Harry out of it, but this time Harry is sure his idea will work. His competition, boss Kristo (Herbert Lom) threatens Harry to back off, but Harry has Kristo's own father helping him train his wrestler. All goes wrong when another wrestler, the Strangler (Mike Mazurki) kills Kristo's father in a match. Kristo puts a price on Harry's head. Harry's final scheme is to get Mary to turn him in so she'll have the reward money. She refuses, but Harry tries to make it look like she did. The Strangler catches Harry and kills him. Mary ends up in the arms of an artist who lives above her apartment and loves her.

Review - Night and the City

Pretty bleak. There really wasn't a sympathetic character except Mary. Tierney got second billing, but her role was small and mostly involved scolding Harry for hustling.
