Review - Advance to the Rear
Ridiculous slapstick that wasn't real enough to allow me to root for anyone and wasn't funny enough to make me laugh.

| Description: | During the Civil War, Capt. Jared Heath (Glenn Ford) is stuck under Col. Claude Brackenbury (Melvyn Douglas) who is determined not to do anything to upset the enemy. As punishment for an accidental retreat, the unit is sent to the western wilderness and somehow is ordered to meet a gold shipment. Along the way they pick up Confederate spy Martha Lou Williams (Stella Stevens) who arranges for Heath's company to be surprised by a Confederate force. The Confederates take the gold, but Heath uses unconventional (and ridiculously silly) tactics to regain it. Heath and Williams fall in love, although Williams keeps trying to get the gold to the very end. All is silly but ends well with nobody getting killed or even hurt in spite of all the shooting. |
