Description:Senator's daughter Mary McKinley (Patricia Neal) has waited four years for her boyfriend, John Lawrence (Ronald Reagan) to get out of the army so they could get married. But when John arrives, he doesn't seem to be in a hurry. What Mary doesn't know is that John is already married. He married Lilly, an English girl, because it was the only way she could get to the states to marry John's friend Fred (Jack Carson). What John doesn't realize is that Fred thought Lilly was dead and married someone else. Now John has to figure out how to get rid of one wife to marry another. There's confusion and deception galore. Mary doesn't think John loves her anymore. Finally, John confesses everything and Lilly backs him up. Mary believes him, but John still has to wait six weeks until he can divorce Lilly. That is until he discovers that Lilly thinks she's a widow because her first husband died—and that first husband is very much alive and happens to be an officer that John doesn't like.

Review - John Loves Mary

Silly, but played with good energy. It's one of those movies that wouldn't have any plot if the characters only explained things to each other and believed each other.
