Description:U.S. submarine Thunderfish is on patrol in the Pacific during WWII. Lt. Commander Duke Gifford (John Wayne) learns that his ex-wife, Mary (Patricia Neal), with whom he is still in love, is stationed in Hawaii as a nurse. Duke wants her back, but she's dating Bob, a flyer who also happens to be the kid brother of the Thunderfish's commander Pop (Ward Bond). Mary still loves Duke, but he's always more involved with duty than with her. During an attack, Pop is killed. Bob blames Duke, and Mary is hurt when Duke won't let her comfort him. Duke, now the commander, takes the sub on patrol and locates the Japanese fleet. He sinks several ships and rescues a downed flyer—of course it's Bob. When he gets back to Hawaii, Duke finds Mary waiting for him and they get back together.

Review - Operation Pacific

Not terrible, but totally predictable. As soon as I found out Bob was a flyer, I knew Duke would rescue him. Not a movie to watch a second time, but entertaining enough for one viewing.
