Description:Jim Dempsey (Michael Brandon) is a NY cop who is targeted by the mob. He's assigned to London where he's paired with Harriet Makepeace (Glynis Barber). At first the two don't get along because the English police, and Makepeace, don't like or understand Dempsey's aggressive manner. But in time, the partners begin to work together well, trust each other, and even fall for each other. There are 30 episodes over three seasons.

Review - Dempsey and Makepeace

The plots are typical TV cop fare, and not terribly exciting. What makes it good are the two leads and their byplay with each other. The series has the typical sexual tension of these type of shows—never realized in the series. But Brandon and Barber actually married in real life and have remained married for 33 years and counting. The show is the origin of a quote I often use, "Life is hard, then you die."

I watched several episodes when it was on US TV in the 80's and never forgot it. I decided to search for it one day and discovered the entire series on TV and watched it straight through.
