Description:Johnny Williams (George Montgomery) is a newsreel photographer in China before America enters WWII. The Japanese send two agents—Fifi and Weed—to convince Williams to take photos of the Burma Road for them. Williams meets Haoli (Gene Tierney), a (very unconvincing) Chinese woman who helps her father run a school for orphans. They fall for each other, but she insists on staying with her father. Williams agrees to film the Burma Road, but for the Americans. Weed is sent to kill him, but Fifi, having fallen for him, warns him. Williams tracks down Haoli just in time to see her killed in a Japanese bombing attack.

Review - China Girl

I wanted to like it, but it was really a mess of a movie, with all sorts of characters whose loyalties were unknown and plot threads that were left dangling. Williams was shifty, looking out only for himself. There's really no reason Haoli would have fallen for him, but that's movies for you. Robert Blake plays a young Hindu boys who adopts Williams and follows him everywhere.
