Description:Don Jose (Glenn Ford) has just joined the Spanish army when he meets the gypsy Carmen (Rita Hayworth). He' mesmerized and can't keep away from her even though it's obvious that she flits from man to man — including Jose's colonel. Jose sneaks out of his barracks to see Carmen, and when the colonel shows up, Jose kills him. He's forced to go on the run with Carmen and joins the gang of bandits lead by Carmen's husband. When this husband finds Jose and Carmen alone together, they fight and Jose kills him too. Jose and Carmen get married but Carmen soon gets bored. She leaves the gang hideout and takes up with a bullfighter. Jose can't stand it and quarrels with his men, one of which goes to the army to get the reward. When Jose shows up at the bullfights to get Carmen, she refuses to go with him. He stabs her to death just as a soldier shoots and kills him.

Review - Loves of Carmen, The

The plot — meh. The sets — meh. Glenn Ford — meh. Rita — delightfully lovely, and she played her role here with seductive, passionate loveliness. But she was a little to glamorous for the part. Somebody a little more earthy might have been better.
