Description:Jo Hayden (Judy Garland) and Harry Palmer (Gene Kelly in his first movie role) are vaudeville performers who fall in love. After working small towns across America, they finally get booked into the Palace in NY. But before the show, WWI begins and Harry gets drafted. He wants to postpone long enough to do the show and marry Jo, so he smashes his hand. But that same night, Jo finds out her brother is KIA. She thinks Harry's a coward and dumps him. She joins a show and performs in France for the troops. Harry tries to join the armed forces but can't because of his hand. He joins the YMCA band and goes to France. Near the front, he's the only person able to dash through a barrage and stop a string of ambulances. On the way, he wipes out a German machine gun nest. He's given a medal for bravery. After the war, he goes to see Jo's show and she forgives him.

Review - For Me and My Gal

I'd heard the title song, but not much else. Judy Garland wasn't nearly as annoying as she usually is. Gene Kelly was Gene Kelly. It had more of a plot than many musicals, but dragged for me a bit in places.
