Description:Professor David Wilson (Tony Curtis) is caught by his wife Ann (Janet Leigh), being kissed by a student. She threatens to divorce him. David's friend Mike (Dean Martin), a TV script writer, comes up with a story about David being in the FBI. He even gets the prop department to make a fake i.d. Ann buys it and is very proud of her husband. But Mike can't leave it alone. He decides to use the opportunity for he and David to get together with two women, whom, they tell Ann, are enemy agents. By this time, the real FBI has heard about the fake i.d. Agent Powell (James Whitmore) realizes that David was just trying to save his marriage and is inclined to go easy on him. But things soon get out of hand, with the CIA and the Russians all buying into the story. The Russians think David has the names of secret scientists, so they grab David, Mike, and Ann. They give David drugs and try to get him to give up the names, but of course he can't. The Russians take off, and David, still under the influence of the drugs, tells Ann everything. She leaves in a huff, leaving David and Mike in the basement of the Empire State building, surrounded by boilers and pipes. They think they're in a Russian submarine and decide to sink it. They flip all the switches and turn all the valves and flood the basement. In the end, the Russian spies are caught, and Ann forgives David.

Review - Who Was That Lady?

Just silly, but with some parts that actually got me laughing -- including the scene where David and Mike are in the flooded basement singing America and believing they're about to die. In another scene, Powell, knowing full well that David and Mike came up with the scheme to fool Ann, but watching the Russians buy into it, says, "I've been worried about the outcome of the Cold War, but I'm not now. We can't lose." His boss says, "A tie maybe, but we can't lose."
