Description:Dramatized view of the action at Remagen near the end of WWII. American forces found a bridge over the Rhine intact and managed to dash across and form a bridgehead. In the movie, George Segal plays the commanding officer of the first group of American soldiers across the bridge. Ben Gazzara plays his second in command. Robert Vaughn plays the German officer tasked with destroying the bridge. The explosives he was given were inferior and the bridge was damaged but not destroyed. The officer went for help and was shot for abandoning his post and failing to destroy the bridge.

Review - Bridge at Remagen, The

The first half was much better than I expected. Toward the end, Segal went a little overboard with his depiction of a worn-out soldier. Maybe it wasn't overboard, but it got dull. Although the characters were fictional, the movie sticks fairly close to the actual events.
