Description:David Talbot (William Powell) can't remember anything prior to the time he showed up with a head wound 18 years earlier. Since then, he entered the French diplomatic service and married Lucienne (Hedy Lamarr). One day he receives a blackmail note claiming that he's really a criminal who killed a man during a robbery. A man named Sarrou (Basil Rathbone) shows up in court and clears Talbot's name—but then reveals that he's actually the blackmailer and will expose Talbot if he doesn't come through with the money. He gets a Michelle (Claire Trevor) to pretend to be Talbot's old girlfriend and another woman to pretend to be Talbot's mother. Talbot soon begins to believe him—or so we're led to believe. He agrees to give Sarrou money from his office safe, but it's a trap and the police show up. At the station, Talbot admits to being the criminal. Michelle, realizing that the penalty for blackmail is a lot less than the penalty for murder, tells the truth and she and Sarrou are arrested. Talbot reveals that he knew he wasn't the criminal after all.

Review - Crossroads

It was a pretty unlikely plot, but it had me guessing a bit. Hedy Lamarr was at her most beautiful and although her main role was to appear in several lovely outfits, she actually seemed to do more acting in this one than usual.
