Description:Chris Hunter (Ann Sheridan) returns home to an empty house and is attacked by a man. There's a struggle and she kills him. Her husband Bob arrives home the next morning, and Chris tells him and the police that the man was a jewel thief. But Larry (Lew Ayres) their lawyer is soon contacted by a man with evidence that Chris knew the dead man and, in fact, had an affair with him while Bob was away during the war. When Bob finds out, he determines to divorce Christ. Chris is arrested for murder and brought to trial, but she convinces the jury (truthfully) that the affair was short and the man wouldn't leave her alone. His killing was truly self defense. Larry convinces the two of them to talk it over and try to make the marriage work.

Reviews for The Unfaithful

Review - Unfaithful, The

An intense, tight movie—without the overly complicated plot and false leads of many of this sort of movie. The pro-marriage speech by Larry at the end and the Hunters' determination to make a go of it were a positive ending also unusual in these types of movies.
