Review - Congo Maisie
The plot was what you'd expect from a 1940 movie about a native uprising, but Ann Sothern as Maisie steals the show again.

| Description: | Showgirl Maisie (Ann Sothern) is trying to get to a gig in Africa when she's sidetracked. She ends up at a remote hospital with Dr. Michael Shane (John Carroll), who used to be the doctor at that station but now owns a rubber plantation. The current doctor, McWade, and his wife Kay (Rita Johnson) live at the hospital, but the local witch doctors are stirring up trouble with the natives. Shane tries to seduce Kay, but Maisie sees it happening and steps in with some good advice. Then she helps Shane with an operation on McWade who needs his appendix removed. And when the natives come to kill them, Maisie out-magics the witch doctors with elements of her show routine. The movie ends with the McWades returning to America, Shane taking over the hospital again and asking Maisie to marry him. |
