Description:Maisie (Ann Sothern) takes a two-week vacation in Reno. On the way she meets Bill, a soldier who asks her to deliver a letter to his wife, Gloria (Ava Gardner in an early, small role). Gloria is a wealthy heiress, and her secretary, who is embezzling money from her employer, has convinced her that Bill only married her for her money. Gloria is getting a divorce, and Maisie is Bill's last chance to get her to reconsider. In Reno, Maisie meets Flip (John Hodiak), a card dealer in a casino. He falls for her, but refuses to believe her when she uncovers evidence about Gloria's secretary. Flip even becomes convinced that Maisie has had a mental breakdown. In desperation, Maisie and a bellboy (who has a crush on her) kidnap Gloria and the secretary and keep them away from divorce court long enough for Bill to arrive and clear everything up. Maisie ends up with Flip.

Review - Maisie Goes to Reno

Starts weird, with Maisie developing a nervous tic that causes her to wink at everybody, then gets promising for a while, then gets muddy and ridiculous at the end. One thing that bugged me was that Maisie's love interest, Flip, was a thoroughly unlikable guy—a gambler who makes a move on her, then refuses to believe or support her, then attempts to convince everyone she's crazy. And then, when Maisie is proved right, suddenly becomes her guy. Ava Gardner had a role as the heiress wife whose basic responsibility in the movie was to stand around and look like Ava Gardner.
