Description:John Sarto (Edward G. Robinson) is the head of a crime gang. He decides to retire, leaving his organization to Jack Buck (Humphrey Bogart) and ditching his girl Flo (Ann Sothern). After five years, Sarto decides retirement isn't for him, but when he returns, he learns that Buck has no intention of letting him back in the gang. Sarto decides to start his own gang and a gang war threatens. Innocently, Flo arranges a meeting between Sarto and Buck to work things out. Buck grabs Sarto and has his men kill him—or so he believes. Sarto is injured and finds himself in a monastery—Little Brothers of the Flowers. He realizes its a safe hideout, so he pretends to join but is always looking for angles. When he sees in a newspaper that Flo is about to marry a rancher (Ralph Bellamy), he leaves the monastery. But when he hears that Buck's gang is preventing the brothers from selling their flowers, Sarto takes action. He, the rancher, and his friends, attack the gang and turn Buck over to the police. The brothers can sell their flowers again. He realizes Flo would be better off with the rancher, so he goes back to the monastery.

Review - Brother Orchid

To begin with, I'm not a fan of Robinson. And all the characters in this movie seemed to be parodies of themselves and couldn't be taken seriously. It's billed primarily as a comedy, but there was very little humor.
