Description:Two French soldiers, Paul (Robert Mitchum) and Jean (Richard Hart) are in a Nazi prison camp together. Paul tells Jean about his life in Breton and his wife Marise (Greer Garson). The two men attempt to escape, and Paul is shot. He asks Jean to help him, but Jean walks away. Jean makes his way to Breton and meets Marise. He tells her Paul is dead and attempts to force his way into her life. A letter comes from Paul but Jean intercepts it and convinces Marise to go to Paris with him. On the day they were to leave, Paul returns. The two men confront each other on the cliffs and Jean falls to his death. Marise feels guilty for loving a man other than her husband and, she thinks, for causing his death. But Paul forgives her and all is well.

Review - Desire Me

Overly dramatic schmaltz. Jean seemed creepy from the beginning, especially since early on the script revealed how he walked away from the injured Paul and, later, how he intercepted the letter. Marise was a sympathetic character at first, but soon I just felt irritated with her for falling for Jean's lies. I've never been a big fan of Garson—she's attractive when she smiles but just looks grim when she doesn't. Mitchum, as Paul, wasn't around for much of the movie and didn't have much to do. They tried to make it look like it was Paul who fell off the cliff, cut after spending so much of the movie showing Jean to be the villain, it was obvious he couldn't end up with the girl.
