Description:Lt. Sands (George Murphy) is forced to resign from the Navy on an unjust charge brought by Chief Mallory (Pat O'Brien). When the war starts, Sands enlists as a sailor and gets assigned to Mallory's gun crew on a merchant ship. Along the way, the ship also picks up Myra, Mallory's sister and Sands' ex-fiancee. An incident happens on board that (falsely) convinces the crew that Sands is a coward. He's ostracized until they capture a German supply ship and Mallory needs Sands to navigate. He comes up with a plan to deliver rigged torpedoes to German submarines and manages to sink three of them. When two more submarines attack the ship, Sands' crew manages to sink them too! Sands is restored to his previous rank and given a ship. And he gets Myra back.

Review - Navy Comes Through, The

Pure schmaltzy war-time propaganda, but with good actors playing good (if stereotyped) characters enthusiastically. In other words, it's a fun-to-watch commercial for the Navy and certainly NOT to be taken as remotely realistic.
