Description:Bruce Hallerton (Tom Ewell) is coerced into managing a Little League team. His wife Betty (Anne Francis) knows nothing about the sport and isn't thrilled. Things get complicated when their son, Dennis, is picked to be on another team, one coached by an aggressive manager who teaches his players to play hard. Bruce's team stinks, and he's soon unpopular with most of the parents. He gets in further trouble when he misinterprets the motives of Doris (Ann Miller) a single mom who just wants a father-figure to encourage her son. In the end, Bruce sticks to just encouraging his boys to have fun. They get a little better and come to appreciate him.

Review - Great American Pastime, The

Really no point. It wasn't funny. Mostly it made me wonder what Betty (Francis was 26 when the movie was made) could possible have seen in the nerdy, unattractive, inattentive and not particularly successful Bruce (Ewell was 47 when the movie was made). If Betty was the age of the actress who portrayed her, she was 16 when she had her son.
