Description:Based on short stories by Rudyard Kipling (which I've read). Three, hard-drinking, law-breaking (but hard-fighting) English soldiers in India, Ackroyd (Stewart Granger), Sykes, and Malloy. They're constantly breaking the rules, fighting, and getting in trouble, to the chagrin of their commanding officer Col. Brunswick (Walter Pidgeon) and his next-in-command Capt. Pindenny (David Niven). Brunswick decides to break up the three by promoting Ackroyd to sergeant. When Brunswick receives orders to send 50 men, led by Pindenny, to an isolated post, Ackroyd remains behind. He deserts and follows, arriving just as the rest Pindenny's men are trapped by Indian insurgents. Ackroyd manages to release them and help capture the leader of the insurgents. The fighting of the three gets Brunswick promoted to general.

Amusing enough. Pidgeon and Niven were good. Granger was much too polished to play Ackroyd convincingly, and the final fighting scene didn't really portray the three as heroes any more than the rest of the troop.
