Description:Christy (Eleanor Parker) is a secretary at a law firm. She's asked to fly to L.A. and let Peter (Fred MacMurray) know that he just inherited $2 million. She needs money badly and decides to marry him if she can. The problem is that Peter is about to be married to June. Christy goes to Peter's apartment and pretends to faint. Peter's best man, Roland, a psychiatrist who is also in love with June, sees him with Christy and assumes—especially after Christy pursues Peter to the church. For whatever reason, Peter assumes Christy is insane and postpones the wedding to take her to Roland's clinic. Along the way, Peter and Christy get lost in the fog, drive into the ocean, and end up with a gang of Mexican railroad workers who don't know English. They throw a party for the couple whom they think are on their honeymoon. Under the influence of tequila in the moonlight, Peter kisses Christy. The next morning they finally get to the clinic where Roland and Christy conspire together to break up Peter and June. Peter still refuses to believe Christy's story about his inheritance and signs away all the money. When he finally realizes the inheritance, now gone, was real, he also realizes Christy wasn't crazy. He dumps June and runs off with Christy.

Review - A Millionaire for Christy

A loud, confusing movie with a plot that makes no sense. Everybody talked, nobody listened, because if they did, there would have been no story. MacMurray acted like he was on drugs the whole time. Parker overacted, looked the the moron she was pretending to be, and was thoroughly unlikable. There wasn't a single character in this mess worth caring about.
