Description:Walter Williams (Brian Donlevy) is a wealthy engineer who is very much in love with his wife, Irene (Helen Walker). But Irene is having an affair with Jim Torrence, and together they come up with a plan to kill Walter. Jim poses as Irene's cousin and hitches a ride with Walter. He punctures a tire and, as Walter is fixing it, hits him over the head and throws him down a cliff. A moving van comes along, and Jim panics and drives into the path of an oil truck. He's burned beyond recognition, and when the car is found, the body is identified as Walter's. Meanwhile, Walter comes to and, in a daze, climbs inside the moving van while the driver is investigating the oil truck crash. Walter comes to in Idaho where he wanders into a gas station owned by war widow Marsha Peters (Ella Raines). He helps her fix a car, and she hires him to help in the garage and falls in love with him. Meanwhile, policeman Quincy (Charles Coburn) investigates and finds evidence that Irene conspired to kill Walter. She is arrested and put on trial for murder. Marsha convinces Walter that he can't allow Irene to be charged with his murder when he's not dead. Walter returns to San Francisco and reveals that he's still alive—which proves to Quincy that it was Jim's body in the car. Quick thinking Irene twists things around. She admits that she was having an affair with Jim, but claims that Walter found out about it and killed Jim. Irene is released, and Walter is charged with murder. Things look bad, but Marsha and Quincy keep digging for evidence and eventually find what they need to prove Irene and Jim plotted to kill Walter. Walter is freed and makes plans for the future with Marsha.

Actually a very good movie. The characters seem real and the acting isn't over-the-top dramatic as is often the case with these kinds of movies. The whole thing hangs together well and is suspenseful. My biggest complaint is that Ella Raine's hairdos were terrible and made her look a whole lot less attractive than she might have looked. Helen Walker was cold and nasty as the scheming wife.
