Description:Italian woman Lisa Macklin (Sophia Loren) lives in Paris with her husband Bob (Anthony Perkins). Bob is unstable, jealous, manipulative, and abusive, and Lisa wants nothing more to do with him. On a flight to Casablanca, Bob's plane crashes and he's assumed dead. A few days later, he shows up in their apartment with a plan to cash in on his life insurance. He threatens Lisa and coerces her to go along with it to be rid of him, so she does. But he never intends to let her go. Meanwhile, Lisa meets American David (Gig Young), a reporter who is interested in her romantically. When the money finally comes through, Bob forces Lisa to drive him to the border, telling her that, because she's the one who signed the papers, she's the one who will go to jail. Seeing no other escape, Lisa drives down a back road, convinces Bob to get out of the car, then runs over him, killing him. She dumps his body in a river and returns to Paris. David, with new evidence that Bob is alive, confronts Lisa. As the movie ends, she's gone mad.

Review - Five Miles to Midnight

Loren is good in this, but the movie doesn't really work. Perkins is more weird than sinister and, apart from a few slaps, never presents any actual threat. Lisa could have gotten out from under him at any time. Even at the end, she could have confessed, saying that Bob threatened her. It was a suspense movie in which the threat never seemed particularly real.
