| Description: | Somebody is breaking political prisoners out of British prisons and delivering them to Russia. Agent Rearden (Paul Newman) gets himself arrested for jewel theft and put in prison. After 15 months, he is contacted and given a chance to buy his way out along with Slade (a political prisoner). They escape from prison, but Rearden is held captive in a country home. While he's there, somebody finds out who he is, kills his boss, and is about to kill Rearden. He manages to get away. The only person who knows who he is is Smith (Doninique Sanda), the daughter of Rearden's boss. They figure out that the scheme is run by British MP Sir George Wheeler, and they figure out that he's taking Slade to Malta on his yacht. They follow and end up in a showdown in a church. To save Smith, Rearden allows Wheeler and Slade to go free, but Smith is having none of it. She picks up a gun and kills the two men, then walks away from Rearden in the dark. |
