Description:The Macauley family. Dad is dead. Oldest brother Marcus (Van Johnson) is in the Army. He tells his buddy Toby all about his home and his sister Bess (Donna Reed). Toby is an orphan and thinks of the Macauley's as his family. Middle brother Homer (Mickey Rooney), still in high school, works evenings at a telegraph office with Willie (Frank Morgan) and Tom (James Craig). Tom marries society girl Diana (Marsha Hunt). One day, Willie dies, Homer finds out from a telegraph that Marcus has been killed, and Toby, injured, comes to town to meet all the Macaulelys.

Review - Human Comedy, The

Life on the home front during WWII, with its joys and sorrows. It was enjoyable, but too schmaltzy to be really moving. It didn't let you figure out any of the messages on your own but crammed them all down your throat with speeches and prayers every two minutes.
