Description:Van Morgan (Dean Martin), professional gambler, takes a hand off one night. While he's gone, another player at the table is caught cheating. Nick Evers (Roddy McDowall) leads the others to hang the guy. Van tries to stop them but is knocked out. Soon the members of the card game start dying off. As they're killed one by one, we come to suspect Rudd, the new preacher in town. Eventually we find out that the dead gambler was Rudd's brother, and Nick is giving him the names of the other players one by one and claiming that Van was the leader of the hangmen. Eventually he starts giving Rudd names of people just because he doesn't like them. Rudd doesn't believe him, and kills him too, leaving only Van. By this time, Van has figured out it was Rudd. They draw, but Van wins. He gets injured but kills Rudd. He leaves town with Lily (Inger Stevens) who was just in the movie for looks.

Review - 5 Card Stud

Should have been good, but there were issues. Martin and Mitchum both acted like they were sleep-acting. McDowall as the bad guy didn't work either—people would have just spanked him. In the end, it was just dull. And as for being a mystery, there really wasn't anybody else in the movie who could have been the killer but Rudd, so while perhaps the townsfolk would be wondering, the viewer sure wasn't.
