Description:Clare (Linda Darnell) is hiding out in Mexico from her gangster boyfriend who doesn't want her to testify against him. The gangster's hit man, Cappy (Jack Palance), is chasing her around town. Clare takes refuge with American boxer Russ (Robert Mitchum), who is barnstorming around Mexico in hopes of fighting his way into championship contention. Clare and Russ take a cable car up to a mountaintop hotel and fall in love. Cappy, who wants to run away with Clare, follows and threatens to kill Russ if Clare doesn't go with him. They all end up on the cable car, which, convenient to the story, breaks down halfway down. Russ descends on a rope and manages to swing himself to a rock and climb back up the the hotel where there are emergency cars. He brings one back, but Cappy grabs a cop's gun and threatens to kill everyone if he and Clare aren't allowed to leave alone. Russ attacks and fights and manages to toss Cappy off the car. The rest make it down safely, and Clare and Russ look forward to a happy future of testifying against a mob boss after being in love for all of 18 hours.

Review - Second Chance

Made as a 3-D movie, which probably explains the lack of plot and the extended scene on the cable car. Mitchum played himself with his usual sleepy flare. Palance looked half retarded as the heavy handed, obsessed hit man. Darnell was believable as gangster's girl turned good but still tough.
