Description:Burlesque dancer Angela Gardner (Virginia Mayo) decides to head to college and ends up at Midwest State, where her old high school teacher, John Palmer (Ronald Reagan), is now a professor of theater arts. Palmer is tired of using Shakespeare for the annual college play, so he works with Angela to put on a musical. While this is going on, Palmer has to fight for his wife, Helen (Phyllis Thaxter), who is being wooed by her old boyfriend, Shep (Don Defore), and Angela is being wooed by football star Don Weston (Gene Nelson). All seems to be working out when a girl who likes Don finds out that Angela worked in Burlesque. She gives the story to the paper, and the school president, Fred Copeland, insists that Angela be expelled and demands that Palmer informs the student body. Instead, Palmer defies the president and sticks up for Angela. Copeland heads out to fire him, but Angela confronts him first—and recognizes him as a jerk who saw her burlesque show and tried to seduce her. The tables turn, Palmer is made full professor, the musical goes on, and Angela stays in school.

Review - She's Working Her Way Through College

A lot going on in this one, and it was sorta fun to watch, but at the end of the day, the plot didn't amount to anything and the songs were mostly forgettable. Mayo was lovely. It's always fun to see the greatest POTUS of my lifetime when he was an actor, and Gene Nelson's dance while exercising on gymnastic equipment was one of the most impressive performances I've seen.
