Description:War reporter Charles Wills (Van Johnson) meets the daughters of James Ellswirth (Walter Pidgeon) in Paris after the war. He meets Marion (Donna Reed) first, and she falls in love with him, but it's Marion's sister Helen (Elizabeth Taylor) that Charles marries. Helen likes a good time and doesn't intend to let her marriage get in the way, although she and Charles love each other. They have a daughter, Vicki. Charles tries to become a writer, but gets only rejection slips. He starts to feel sorry for himself and drink. Some family oil wells pay out, and suddenly the pair can really afford to indulge their vices. Charles begins hanging out with Lorraine (Eva Gabor) while Helen goes around with Paul (Roger Moore). But when she finds out that Paul has no intention of marrying her, she heads home—only to find that Charles, drunk, has locked her out. She walks to Marion's house, but gets sick in the rain and cold and soon dies (in Charles' arms—she apparently forgives him). Marion goes to court and gets custody of Vicki. Charles goes to NY and becomes a successful writer. Two years later, he goes back to get Vicki. Marion refuses to turn over custody until her long-suffering husband informs her that she's not refusing because of what happened to Helen but rather because Charles didn't marry her. Marion decides to let Charles take Vicki back to the states.

Review - Last Time I Saw Paris, The

It's not that I hated the movie. There just wasn't really anybody to root for. Not any of the major characters anyway. They were all frivolous and self-indulgent or moody and vindictive. Or sometimes both. I've never been a big fan of Taylor, but she probably had the most sympathetic part here even though she was a bored party girl.
