Description:Highly fictionalized account of robber Baron Jim Fisk (Edward Arnold), who conspired with his partner Nick Boyd (Cary Grant) to make millions. Along the way, Fisk fell for showgirl Josie Mansfield (Frances Farmer) and made her a Broadway star, but Josie was in love with Nick, and he with her. When Fisk determines to corner the gold market, Boyd things he's going to far and tries to stop him. Fisk is foiled when the government releases gold into the market. The mob, many of whom were ruined by Fisk's ploy, storm his mansion and shoot him dead. (In real life, it was his partner Stokes, called Boyd in this movie, who shot him.)

Review - Toast of New York, The

Mildly amusing film about a man who was consumed by greed and went too far. Grant's character wasn't without charm, but the movie didn't take advantage of his comedic timing much. Farmer was rather bland as Josie.
