Review - My Forbidden Past
Melodramatic little movie notable only because Ava was more lovely here than in any other movie I've seen her in.

| Description: | Barbara (Ava Gardner), member of upper-class family in New Orleans, is in love with Mark (Robert Mitchum), a young doctor. Her family worries about appearances and disapproves. Mark gets tired of waiting and leaves the country. He asks Barbara to come with him, but she doesn't because she's afraid of what people will say. She asks her cousin Paul (Melvyn Douglas) to take a letter to Mark. Paul doesn't deliver the letter, and a couple months later, when Mark returns, he has a gold-digging wife. Barbara inherits a great deal of money from her disreputable grandmother whom the family works to keep hidden. She pays Paul to seduce Mark's wife away from him. Paul tries, but he and the woman quarrel, he pushes her, and she hits her head and dies. Paul flees, and Mark is arrested for murdering his wife. But Barbara, who is disgusted with her behavior, steps forward and tells the truth. She's disowned by her family, but Mark seems to indicate that he's willing to get back together with her after Paul's trial is over. |
