Description:WWII propaganda film about Colin Spence (Henry Fonda) a shy, timid writer who lets his friend spend all his time with Valentine (Maureen O'Hara), the woman Spence loves. He enlists to be a private but is soon made corporal in his unit in North Africa. His superior, Sgt. Kelly (Thomas Mitchell) is an indestructible career soldier who encourages Spence to show some backbone. When Kelly is killed on patrol, Spence is left in charge of three other men. (Throughout the movie, he has flashbacks of his missed opportunities with Valentine.) They're lost in the desert and out of food and water. They come upon an oasis occupied my a much-larger group of Germans. Spence sneaks into the German camp for food and water, then, when his men are refreshed, leads them in an attack. One is killed, and Spence and another man are injured, but all the Germans are killed. Spence wins a ribbon and realizes he has to fight for the things he wants. He proposes to Valentine and she accepts.

Review - Immortal Sergeant

About what you would expect from a war-time propaganda film, and I'm not a big fan of Henry Fonda, but it kept my interest for the most part.
